Interview preparation checklist for students and graduates

4 min read

Use this checklist to avoid last-minute scrambling. It is designed for a first, graduate, internship, or student-job interview where the biggest difference comes from being clear and prepared rather than perfect.

Role and company

You should be able to explain why this role, why this company, and why now in a few sentences. That is more useful than trying to memorise every page of the company website.

  • Read the job description and highlight the top three skills.
  • Understand what the company does and who it serves.
  • Find one current priority, project, or value you can genuinely connect with.
  • Prepare your reason for applying in your own words.

Your evidence

Prepare a small set of stories, not a full script. Each story should show what happened, what you did, and the result or lesson.

  • One teamwork example.
  • One problem-solving or initiative example.
  • One example of feedback, pressure, or a setback.
  • A 60-second answer to “Tell me about yourself.”

Practice and logistics

Say your answers out loud at least once. Then remove the details that do not help. Finish by making the interview itself easy to attend.

  • Practice a short mock interview with follow-ups.
  • Prepare two questions for the interviewer.
  • Confirm the time, format, travel, or video link.
  • Choose clothes and test technology the day before.
  • Bring a short note with examples and questions, not a script.

Use this practice prompt

Take me through an interview-readiness checklist for a graduate role, then ask the first question I should practice out loud today.

Lenviva can run the question aloud, follow up when an answer needs evidence, and give you one concrete answer to retake. The first practice is free.
